We call these people “first-time patients”
- If it is your first time at this hospital.
- If you have been to this hospital before but now you have a different illness.
- If you need to see a doctor for an illness we have treated previously, but more than a year has passed since your last visit.
As of the second visit, you are “a revisiting patient”.
First-time patients should have a referral.
Kyushu University Hospital usually only accepts patients who are referred by doctors at local clinics / hospitals for special tests or more advanced treatments (for the Medical Department).
For the Dental Departments, please see the asterisk mark (**) below.
First visit (Medical Department)
Before visiting our hospital, please visit your local clinic and/or hospital first for initial consultation.
Your local clinic and/or hospital undertakes your reservation procedure.

*If you come to our hospital without a referral by a doctor or another hospital, you will have to pay an extra ¥5,400 (Medical Departments) ¥3,240 (Dental Departments) in accordance with Japanese medical service law. Your health insurance will NOT cover this fee.
**For consultation at the Dental Department, it is preferable that you bring the referral letter prepared by your dentist (You can receive consultation even without a referral letter).
First-time patient registration: 8:30 am - 11:00 am
Please do not contact the doctor to make an appointment.
On your appointment date, please arrive at the Information Counter in the Entrance Hall 15 minutes before the appointment time.
If it does NOT say APPOINTMENT ONLY, you can go to the counter between 8:30 am and 11:00 am. If you wish to see doctors in two different departments in one day, you need to finish the consultation at the first department and then register for the second appointment before 11:00 am.
Revisiting patients must make an appointment.

Please tell your Patient ID Number when you call.
The receptionist will usually speak Japanese only. If you are a foreign language speaker, it might be best to ask for help from someone to make the call. We request that you to be accompanied by your interpreter when you visit the hospital so that we can provide you with the best possible medical care.
Please show your Health Insurance card at the reception desk.
Please bring the documents listed below (where applicable)
- Health Insurance card
- Proof of medical expense assistance (help you get ･･･)
- Referral letter, X-ray films/CD, etc.
- Foreign resistration card
- Patient ID card (a thin plastic card)
If you forget to bring your Health Insurance card, you will have to personally pay 100% of the fees. If there are any changes to your Health Insurance card, or you need to have it renewed, please tell the reception staff as soon as possible. Please also show your Health Insurance card to staff at the beginning of each monthly.
